Here are some simple tips you can add to your daily routine without a lot of extra effort to start eating healthier and be more active:

  • Eating: one of the most important thing for healthy living is probably the food you put in your mouth. Unfortunately nowadays there are so many fad or extreme nutrition advices out there, low carb, high carb, low fat, raw diet, etc. It is important to make realistic changes in your current eating. If you currently are not eating a lot of veggies or fruits, then just add a few more veggies or fruits into your current diet. If you currently are drinking soda every day, don't cut them out complete but just remove a few here and there with water or tea. Rather than start to eat clean 100% of the time you can start to learn a healthy recipe once a week and maybe even learn it with your fiancé so it can be fun and both of you guys can enjoy it. For similar realistic changes you can make in your current diet style to help eat just a bit healthier day by day.

  • Staying more active: we don't have to go to a gym to work out to be healthy or to lose weight as long as we are moving our body. There are many things we can do outside the gym that qualifies as being active. Outdoor hiking, playing with your dog in the park, grocery shopping with a basket rather than a cart, taking the stairs over elevators, doing some fun hula hoop or kickboxing during TV commercial breaks can all help you stay active without forcing yourself to do something mundane in the gym that you hate. It is a lot likely for you to sustain an active lifestyle you enjoy than sustain a gym routine you hate and only need for temporary results.

  • Finally if you do want to follow a fitness routine you can start slowly. In general weight training, cardio, and flexibility are important for a complete fitness routine. You can start with full body resistance training three times a week, use walking or jogging for 20 min as your cardio routine 2 times a week, and practice some gentle yoga at home in a studio to improve your flexibility. Start slowly so you don't shock your body.
